"A highly recommended, character-driven sci-fi novel in the tradition of Robert A. Heinlein." -Kirkus Reviews "A fun story of survival and endurance that hits some metaphysical high notes and exudes a special feeling of "cool", Exigency is highly recommended to any big-hearted and sharp-minded reader in search of a sturdy sci-fi page-turner." -Red City Review Nine brilliant scientists travel light years on a one-way trip to an Earth-like planet. Their mission is to study from orbit the two species of intelligent lifeforms on the surface. The first: an isolated people embarking on civilization and building their world's first city. The second: a brutal race of massive predators, spread thick and still growing across the dominant landmass--destined to breed and eat their way to extinction within a few centuries. After eight years of observation, disaster strikes the orbiting station and only two crewmembers eject successfully. Drifting down through a dark alien sky, the pair realizes their escape pod launched not toward the safety of the city, but to the other side of the planet, touching down deep inside a land no human could possibly survive.

States have long provided substantial funding for public higher education, but changes in recent years have resulted in a decrease in their contributions. In many cases, states have justified this decrease with equalizing funding across institutions; this notion of being more equal is practiced more than at any other time in at least the previous two decades (Mortenson, 2012). More and more public colleges and universities are finding themselves with less state appropriations despite the steadily growing student demand for higher education since the mid-1970s (Mortenson, 2012). Financial exigency is an unforeseen fiscal situation, the degree to which compels a public college or university with reduced or eliminated stated funding to reevaluate programs, services and organizational structure, in order to reposition the institution to continue its mission within the changing economic environment. According to Land and Thompson (2018), a financial crisis is not unique to institutions of higher education. Any organization can experience a financial crisis; if there are not enough liquid funds to supply the demand of products and services, a financial crisis will occur. However, financial exigency is unique to higher education. Before declaring financial exigency, an institution must understand the process as well as the implications for this classification with state and federal agencies, accrediting bodies, students, faculty, staff, alumni and the surrounding communities. Therefore, if an institution has declared financial exigency there are serious implications for its recovery and survival. As more and more states significantly reduce and in some cases eliminate funding to public higher education, many state public institutions will have to do the unthinkable and declare financial exigency. To help colleges and universities that are contemplating declaring financial exigency, Declaring Financial Exigency In Higher Education: How Do You Recover? describes the experiences and strategies used by institutions that have declared and recovered from financial challenges. This book is in no way the answer to preventing or recovering from financial exigency; it is intended to share the stories, voices, experiences, and strategies used by others who have faced financial challenges. More specifically, this book provides background information on financial exigency, legal and compliance obligations during exigency, and lessons learned and recommendations for practice regarding preparing for, declaring and recovering from financial exigency. The authors of this book address several important topics critical to successful strategic planning and recovery from financial exigency.

John Money is regarded by many of his contemporaries as the most original theoretical voice in sexology today. In part, this is due to the scope of his three decades' work as a theoretician, researcher, applied clinician, and academic and public educator. The various chapters of Venuses Penuses bring the reader up to date on a wide range of topics of contemporary interest, including childhood sexuality, male/female erotosexual differences, premenstrual tension, sexuality and aging, treatment of sex offenders, and teenage pregnancy. Several chapters, such as "The Development of Sexuality and Eroticism in Humankind," are already used as texts by sex educators, therapists, and counselors across the country. Gathered together in Venuses Penuses (pronounced Venoos'es Penoos'es) are early papers on the psychology of hermaphroditism, in which the concept of gender first entered modern psychology and social-science usage; the genesis of gender transposition as manifest in homosexuality, bisexuality, gynemimesis, and transexualism; the theory of paraphilic (unusual, often socially unacceptable) sex; and Money's original concepts of lovemaps, the mental templates of the love object and the love process.

"A darkly beautiful sequel." -C. McMullen, author- There is a world around us that most people don't take the time to see. Mara Stone's world was shaken, but she is a fighter. Facing new adversaries, Mara is learning what it truly means to protect the magic. As she starts to rebuild her life, the web of her family's secrets continues to unravel. Mara is forced to face her fear of losing everything she holds dear. She said that you would be a challenge to my children. I thought I had made the right choice when I selected Eliza. If only Mae had not interfered. But, enough of those sad thoughts, I think the two of you will be perfect replacements. When Mara and Cole find themselves in the cold world of Snowstrum, they will have to choose either to be true to their promise to protect the magic, or to follow their desires. Magic may not be enough to free them from the icy fortress they are trapped in. The second book in the Protectors of the Elemental Magic series, Exigency is a compelling, magical young adult fantasy tale.
